Feeding My Family

It’s a new year and many have set new goals for 2026, specifically a nutritional diet. For my family, this means eating nutrient dense foods with a focus on dietary fats and meats instead of processed foods such as breads, cereals, pasta, crackers, etc. and having an understanding of updates to food guides in Canada and our neighbouring countries. I want to emphasize how important it is for me to put whole food first, along with dietary fats, for a huge improvement in my family’s overall health.
I want to encourage you to take the time to have some table conversations at home about how you can prioritize a nutritional diet for your family. They can be as simple as learning about proteins and vegetables and healthy fats such as nuts and avocados. This could look like a nutrition unit study as part of your homeschool environment. Recently, the KFC class learned about how our little buddies that live in our bellies react to the foods we give to them. Knowing our buddies will receive whole foods first, we can expect a healthier immune system and less visits to the doctor because our bodies will have the vitamins and minerals God has naturally intended us to have.
I believe many good things will come from this way of living. I will admit that I have been praying for changes in how we think about nutrition since I have taught physical education. It's important to note that as nutrition evolves that your habits follow too. This was taught as a lesson to the KFC class too, when they built a chain of eight healthy habits, encompassing a prayerful habit, exercise, and sleep to share a few. All of this is slowly coming full circle and it starts with us as adults to help make the change the way God is leading us.
As always, I will be praying for you as you make nutrition decisions for your families, and if you’d ever like to chat about nutrition, please come find me!
